Magic Meatballs (a.k.a. Fat Balls or Satin Balls) the MLifer.com way.

Ingredients:

Dry ingredients;

  • 18 ounce box of Total cereal (The blue Total box.)
  • 42 ounce box of Whole Grain Oats
  • (10) 1/4 ounce packets of Unflavored Gelatin
  • Platinum Performance Powder.  Quantity will vary depending on the number of servings per day and the weight of your dog.  For a 30 lbs dog and 1 serving per day, I use 25 Tablespoons of powder per batch.
  • 12 ounce jar of Wheat Germ
  • 1/4 Cup Salt

Wet Ingredients;

    • (12) Eggs
    • 17 ounces of Extra Virgin Olive Oil (1/2 a 34 ounce bottle)
    • (2) 12 ounce bottles of Unsulphured Molasses

    The Rest;

    • 10 pounds of Hamburger, the cheaper the better as you want a high fat content.  I use 73% lean hamburger from Wal-Mart that comes in 5 pound plastic rolls.
    • (25) Sandwich bags

    Tools

    • Food processor.
    • 5 Gallon Bucket.*
    • Scales that measure in ounces.
    • A Square Ash Tray.**

    * You can get a 5 gallon, food grade bucket from most bakeries, including those in grocery stores, for about $1.

    **    This is used to form flat patties. The square form is more effienct then a circle when packing into a freezer or cooler.  The flat shape thaws faster then a ball.  Glass makes for easy clean up and provide a rigid forming tool.  And ash trays are dirt cheap.  The ash tray I use makes 4" x 4" x 1/2" patties.

    Instructions:

    Use the food processor on the Total and Oats until they are a fine powder, add to Bucket.  Add the remaining Dry Ingredients to Bucket.  Stir until mixed.

    Use the food processor on the eggs (shells and all) until the shells have been reduced to small flecks about the size of glitter, add to bucket.  Add remaining Wet Ingredients and stir until mixed.

    Place Hamburger in Bucket, mix by hand much like you would a meat loaf until all ingredients are combined.

    Use Scale to measure out 12 oz servings*, place individually into Sandwich Bag.  Fold the bag's top down and form into flat patties, much like a Wendy's hamburger, using your Square Ash Tray.  Stack in freezer.  These fit nicely in most freezer door shelves.

    Thaw before serving.

    Makes 25 servings.

    *  Adjust serving size to fit your needs.  Previously I made (56) 6 oz servings per batch.

    Nutritional Information:
      12 ounce serving contains 1215 calories. Pervious serving size of 6 oz was calculated ~540 calories.
